Choosing an Issue
Hello! This is my first post on my very first blog ever! I'm going to start blogging about everything I do that involves my Girl Scout gold award. Whether it involves planning, volunteering, journeys etc. This blog is mostly going to help me as a senior Girl Scout become more organized with my thoughts and with hours of my community service and hours spent on my project. Blogging these ideas will also broadcast my project to my audience to be! This way many of you will be informed about my project and maybe want to do something similar for your own community projects.
Today I spent around 3 hours thinking about the major issues in my community to find a project that I might be interested in. Some of the things I came up with are:
Today I spent around 3 hours thinking about the major issues in my community to find a project that I might be interested in. Some of the things I came up with are:
- The performing arts classes at my school have had a decrease in funds due to the debt my county is in.
- My community's local animal shelters are alway looking for donations to help take care of the many animals that are waiting for new homes
- And lastly MACAA (Monticello Area Community Action Agency), an organization who's main purpose is to help the community be a better place, has garden plots in the community gardens that are open for our gardeners to grow fresh vegetables for them to supply for families with low income.
I spent a while thinking about different ways I could help each organization and I came up with a plan that I can handle taking on. I have chosen the last one because I have made some brief research about the organization and spoke with a knowledgeable person about the gardens.
My plan as of right now is to purchase a plot in the community garden and name it the Girl Scout Golden Garden. I want to be able to grow vegetables or any other plants that MACAA may need with the help of the team that I will develop over the coarse of these three years and some of my fellow cadettes that may be looking for community service hours or Girl Scout community service hours. I wish to create awareness in my community about MACAA and hope to maybe even go a little bit further than that.
