My Gold Award Presentation! [May 3rd]
My meeting on Thursday May 3rd actually went well all things considered.
My itinerary was:
My itinerary was:
- Establish Garden Rules
- Stay on the gravel path
- No touching/picking the plants
- Present Project
- I created a beautiful trifold board and talked about my two year journey through my gold award, the steps I had to take, obstacles I faced, and advice for their journey to come.
- Guest Speaker - Garden Tour
- I contacted one of the PAR team members, Joan Farren, who was willing to take the time out of her day to give these girls a tour around the garden as well as elaborate more on what PAR is all about. She taught them about what plants are grown during the different seasons as well.
- I also gave them some insight on some of the different events and functions the community garden has, as well as various ways to take care of different plants.
- They will draw out a garden plan on paper for their herb garden
- I gave them pictures of the herbs they would be planting in small 2x2 biodegradable planting pots to use as a reference for their drawings
- Then they will begin putting soil into their individual planting pots before planting their herb seeds where they want to.
- The last part of the meeting they got to plant their very own miniature herb garden
- I gave them a tips/instructions sheet with a website attached on how to take care of the herb gardens at home.
At the end of the day the girls earned their Gardener badge as well as the Gardening fun patch!
They absolutely loved the activities and they all learned something new! The leaders and parents were excited that they did not have to run the meeting for once and they thought the herb gardens were an excellent idea since they would be able to benefit from them in their cooking at home.
From talking to a few individuals I now have approximately 3 girls and a leader who have told me they are interested in keeping my garden plot going for the next year to keep my legacy going as I graduate and move on to the next chapter of my life!
