Work 'til You Melt

Today I went out into the garden with my advisor to start cleaning up the plot I am going to be using for the time being for my project. We were out there for a good three hours or so in the blistering heat. Luckily we got to the gardens early before the sun was at its highest point.

Basically my plot looks a little bit like this:

The plants that are already there were planted by the PAR team coordinator who is one of the nicest ladies I have met. On the far left row there used to be peppers, however today I took them out and transplanted them into another plot that has more access to sunlight. Unfortunately the plot right next to mine has plants that have gone over and are now shading my plot so that the plants can not get the sunlight they need. There is nothing much I can do.

I also weeded the heck out of my plot as well since the weeds were very prevalent in the plot and before long could start taking over.

Now I have to think up a plan on what types of vegetables I want to plant in those empty areas for the fall. I am thinking beets could be a good start, but after that I have not a clue. I have been told that leafy plants such as kale, lettuce, and cabbage take up a lot of room in the garden that I may not have, but I think I might take the chance so that I can have the experience.

I guess I need to hit the books and start studying the types of vegetables that are decent in the autumn season and how I need to tend it afterwords.
