Seeds and Transplanting Workshop
I went to a free seeds and transplanting workshop where two gardening experts taught us about how to plant and nurture seeds as they grow and what to look out for while doing so. They also reached us about how to transplant plants that have already been germinated from seed, which means they have already gotten past their most vulnerable state of growth.
Planting seeds is fairly simply, but it takes longer for the plant to grow. This is because the seed needs to germinate before it sprouts up from the soil. The seed does not go deep into the soil and it is covered just enough so that it can still be touched by the sun and water. Water is key to germination because most seeds have a form of coating around it that prevents the seeds from just growing anywhere. The water mixed with the sunlight degenerates this coating and allows the seed to sprout leaves and roots to begin it's journey of growth. germination can take any where from a few days to a few weeks, maybe even longer than that. A gardener must be patient with these ones.
Transplanting is much easier and takes less time since the beginning stages of seed germination have already been done and the only thing the gardener needs to do is make sure that they dig a deep enough hole in the soil to allow the roots to take hold underneath. Then they cover the base of the plant with top soil and fertilizer. After this they continue to care for it like any other plant by watering, weeding, and letting the sun do its part.
This workshop enlightened me on how to really start a garden and what to watch out for while planting my plants for this project. These are some of the basic skills that will lead me to success and bigger projects later on within my garden.
